Raphael Brandon, Head of Running Performance

Raphael Brandon MSc ASCC
Raphael has over 15 years experience as strength and conditioning specialist working with elite athletes from various sports, including Olympic triathlon, professional football and tennis. He is currently the Head of Strength & Conditioning at the English Institute of Sport, and personally works with the Great Britain Athletics team, including medalists from World Championships and Olympic Games. As a former middle distance athlete, combined with this experience, Raphael has the highest level of knowledge of running technique, training and conditioning. Raphael also lectures and presents on Strength and Conditioning science and is currently completing his PhD thesis on the Neuromuscular response to Elite Strength Training. He completed his MSc in sport science from Brunel University in 1997 and is accredited by the UK S&C Association.

Professor Greg Whyte PhD DSc FBASES FACSM
Greg is an Olympian and a World and European Championship medallist in Modern Pentathlon. Following his career in Modern Pentathlon Greg took up triathlon representing Great Britain at the World Championships. With running as a key component of Modern Pentathlon and Triathlon Greg has a detailed understanding of running at the highest level. In addition to his performance record, Greg is a world leader in performance physiology and coaching science having held prestigious posts with GB triathlon, the British Olympic Association and English Institute of Sport. Greg has coached a number of high profile athletes and celebrities to success including Eddie Izzard's 43 Marathons in 51 days for Sport Relief in 2010; Jon Smith the oldest runner to complete the North Pole Marathon; James Cracknell highest placed GB finisher in the Marathon de Sables (12th); and Hugh Williams-Preece, 50 Marathons in 50 days.
As one of British sport's foremost research scientists, Greg has worked in sport for over 2 decades holding a variety of prestigious posts including: Director of Research for the British Olympic Association and Director of Science and Research for the English Institute of Sport. Greg works as a consultant physiologist to a large number of Olympic and professional sports. In recognition of his unique contribution to the field Greg has been awarded Fellowship of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (FBASES) and the American College of Sports Medicine (FACSM).

Dr David Hulse BSc(Hons), MB ChB, MSc(Sports Med), MRCS, FFSEM(UK)
David is part of a new wave of Sports Physicians who have trained as specialists in the UK. He qualified from medical school at Glasgow University in 1996 and initially trained in Orthopaedic Surgery, before deciding to focus his career on specialist treatment of people seeking health and success through sport and physical activity. He completed a Masters degree in Sport & Exercise Medicine at Nottingham University in 2006, including research into the use of dynamic ultrasound scanning to assess shoulder laxity. David has worked with elite and recreational athletes across many sports, including within the English Institute of Sport, Premiership Rugby and international triathlon events.
